NOA’s Manuel Corn to Address Audience at ARSC 2019
Will provide insight into various ways to successfully carry out in-house digitization
Vienna, Austria— 2nd May 2019 —
AV digitizing and archiving specialist NOA GmbH’s product specialist Manuel Corn will detail the ins and outs of systematic in-house digitization of legacy media archives at the 53rd Annual Association of Recorded Sound Collections Conference in Portland, Oregon.
The event, which takes place May 8–11 at the Benson hotel, brings together archiving specialists from around the world for its dedicated event on the preservation and study of sound recordings.
Corn will give his presentation during the theme block “Digitization: Your House or Mine? And Your Way or Mine?” on May 10 starting at 3:30 p.m. With a focus on systematic in-house digitization of legacy media archives, he will, among other topics, discuss the threat of “degralescence” — a menacing combination of degradation and obsolescence — and the challenges this phenomenon brings along with possible solutions.
Through selected case studies of industrial digitization facilities, Corn will provide insight into various ways of how to successfully carry out in-house digitization, for instance by the use of appropriate equipment and efficient allocation of personnel and training. He will also share information with attendees on how to deal with problematic carriers or financial aspects of the project, and more.
“While it may appear to be a difficult task, in-house digitization really can be managed quite resourcefully,” said Corn. “My presentation will spotlight a number of examples from institutions around the world, illustrating how the application of industrial manufacturing processes has helped streamline and contain costs for many projects.”
