Public relations versus publicity: What sets PR apart

Public relations and publicity are often used interchangeably. It’s an error worth correcting. Although PR and publicity are related, they are not the same thing. PR is More than Media Relations

For too many people, including most in the news media, PR is synonymous with media relations. I think we’d be better off dropping the term public relations/PR entirely and calling our field “strategic communications.” But I’ve been saying that for years. No luck so far.
